SUMMARY:Event M15: Sasha's Guitar Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The West Sussex Guitar Orchestra\, directed by Linda Kelsall-Barnett\, is joined by special guest soloists including Amanda Cook and Sam Brown to dedicate an evening of classical guitar to Sasha Levtov\, founder of the West Sussex Guitar Club\, in the wonderful acoustic of St John’s Chapel. \nRenowned classical guitarists Amanda Cook and Sam Brown are both former students of Sasha Levtov and each began their career with the West Sussex Guitar Club\, which he founded in 1993. Sasha sadly passed away in 2025 but he has left a wonderful legacy for the guitar. Come and listen to the guitar in ensemble\, duo and solo in an eclectic mix of atmospheric\, well-loved repertoire.

Laura Bridges research and everyday experience to explain and demonstrate self-belief\, thinking and achievement. And it will be fun! \nMeet the author & book signing 3-4pm. \nYes I Can is a practical book founded on solid psychological concepts. Dr Laura Ritchie is a Chartered Psychologist\, Professor of Learning and Teaching\, musician\, and importantly\, she is someone who found her YES. Yes I Can addresses perception\, perspective\, self-beliefs\, and agency by presenting these concepts through a uniquely inviting\, approachable storytelling voice. Laura interweaves psychological theory with personable stories\, told in a memoir-like way\, drawing on experience from her own musical\, academic and personal life. The stories act as a bridge between research and everyday practice\, allowing the reader to look both at and into their own experience. \nLaura Ritchie is Professor of Learning and Teaching at the University of Chichester\, UK\, a chartered psychologist\, TEDX speaker\, writer\, musician and enthusiastic lover of life. She is vibrant in her teaching\, research\, music-making\, and in life; she embodies a ‘yes’ attitude. Her enthusiasm is contagious and inspires people to realise their goals through positive achievement and reach beyond their dreams. Laura has published and presented internationally\, in North and South America\, Asia\, and across Europe. Laura teaches people to be who they are.

DESCRIPTION:Zoe Barnett\, rising star of the classical guitar\, presents a solo recital for a midsummer evening\, including works by English composers Dowland and Walton plus folk-inspired repertoire from around the world\, highlighting the expressive range of the guitar in the intimate setting of St John’s Chapel. \nZoe\, from Chichester\, is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and gave a very successful recital for the Festival of Chichester in 2024. Known for her captivating performances as a guitarist who plays standing up\, she has played at venues such as King’s Place and Wigmore Hall and has circumnavigated the world as a cruise ship performer. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an inspirational mix of words and music on pastoral and urban themes by classical guitarist Linda Kelsall-Barnett and poet Barry Smith. Linda is the director of the West Sussex Guitar Orchestra and Barry is the director of the South Downs Poetry Festival\, with two acclaimed poetry collections. \nLinda and Barry frequently perform at South Downs Poetry Festival events\, including Chichester Cathedral\, Petworth House and Dimbola Museum\, Freshwater. They will be exploring nature and contrasting urban themes with interweaving poetry and music. \nLinda is a classical guitarist from Chichester and has given several solo recitals for the Festival of Chichester. She teaches guitar locally and is an active member of the West Sussex Guitar Club. \nBarry’s poems have been recognised in national awards/competitions\, including BBC Proms Poetry\, Culture Matters Bread & Roses\, Slipstream and Tongues & Grooves. He was nominated for the 2023 T.S. Eliot Prize for his latest book\, which is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice stories.
