Event SW8: THE BAE SYSTEMS HAWK: DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT, OPERATION AND FUTURE

Arun & Chichester Air Enthusiasts Society presents a Talk by Duncan Dean, former RAF fighter pilot, about the BAE Systems Hawk covering the design, development, and operation of the last all-British built military aircraft. He will take you to the cockpit and explain how this little ‘sportscar’ feels to fly!

Duncan will explain the attributes that have made the Hawk such a special, successful, and iconic training platform.  He will show how the Hawk is used to teach the next generation of fighter pilots, giving them the skills and techniques that prepare them to become lethal operators of today’s complex frontline fighters.  Finally, he will examine the future for the Hawk in the rapidly changing world of military training.  Duncan’s presentation will be concluded with a short Q&A.

About the speaker

Duncan Dean is a former RAF fighter pilot and instructor with almost 5000 hours of fast-jet flying in Tornado, F-16 and Hawk.  He first flew the BAE Hawk in 1991 and since then has amassed over 3500 hours on various marks, from the original T Mark 1, up to the final aircraft to leave the production line.  He currently works for BAE Systems instructing on the Hawk Mark 167 at RAF Leeming. This event is suitable for children aged 12 and over.
