Chichester Chorale perform Franz Schubert’s famous ‘Mass in G’ alongside glorious music by Johannes Brahms, including ‘How lovely are thy dwellings’, and hauntingly beautiful motets by Anton Bruckner, including ‘Locus Iste’, in this his 200th anniversary year. Accompanied by the Chichester Chamber Ensemble and conducted by Tom Robson.
The Priory Church of St Mary and St Blaise in Boxgrove is the most idyllic setting for any event, and Chichester Chorale is delighted to return for its annual pilgrimage to this stunning venue for its summer concert.
In the first half of the concert, we celebrate 200 years since the birth of Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. The choir will perform four of his most famous motets: Locus iste, Christus factus est, Os Justi, and Ave Maria, alongside two beautiful works by his German contemporary Johannes Brahms: Geistliches Lied, a mesmerising ‘Sacred Song’, and How lovely are thy dwellings from his Ein Deutsches Requiem.
The second half showcases one of the most famous sacred masses in the classical repertoire: Franz Schubert’s Mass in G. Also born in Austria, Schubert’s music is often thought to have greatly influenced Bruckner’s melodic writing.
Chichester Chorale, directed by Tom Robson, is delighted to be returning to the Festival of Chichester and collaborating once again with the Chichester Chamber Ensemble for what promises to be an uplifting evening of musical delights.
