Emerging artists from the fine art BA at the University of Chichester showcase their work in a dynamic exhibition which includes textiles, painting, print, sculpture and digital photography.
Fourteen recent Fine Art graduates re-present their 2024 Degree Show in the centre of Chichester at the Oxmarket Contemporary gallery. All have spent at least three years experimenting with different ways of expressing unique ways of seeing the world in a variety of media, and then refining it into a body of artworks that have a unique style approach to the use of materials, and personal imagery, in painting, drawing, textiles, sculpture, print and digital photography.
Some have used more traditional forms or genres, others have purposefully searched for challenging new approaches. All have been encouraged to think of their work as embodying ideas too; these might relate to society, perception and/or psychology etc, or be about colour, gesture, space, abstraction, and/or craft. Meaning is something that has been fought for, but personal meaning is just as important as any other form, and the most important meanings are those that are universal and relatable.
These fourteen emerging artists are remarkable in their engagement and determination; some of them plan to go on to do a Master’s degree (i.e. art or art therapy), others to go into the workplace, but all see this exhibition as a springboard to their future careers.
This event has been sponsored by the Arts Society.
