Summary

This is filling in an existing role, as the current treasurer is stepping down.

You will be appointed as a trustee of the Festival of Chichester CIO, a registered charity. Broadly, you will manage all aspects of the festival’s financial affairs, helping the other committee members (some of which are trustees) to understand, consider and comment on these. Ultimately your role will be to ensure that the festival uses the money that it raises as effectively as possible.

The role

To administer the charity financially.

To manage the bank accounts online.

To raise invoices and follow up debtors.

To report to the committee members at regular monthly meeting on its state of financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.

To oversee and present an annual budget that at best should be breakeven.

To manage the charity’s financial reserves.

To make arrangements for insurance and public liability cover.

To prepare and file annual accounts, as well as maintain and update all records held with the Charity Commission.

To provide financial information for when the charity applies for grants.

To be available for public meetings to present and answers any questions regarding the financial position of the Festival.

To monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity and advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan

To ensure that the charity’s financial affairs are legal, constitutional and follow generally accepted accounting practice.

Skills

You won’t need deep previous financial experience, as the management of the accounts is done on simple spreadsheets.  However, you should have some experience of using spreadsheets and using online banking.

Availability

On average, the time commitment will not exceed around 4 hours per month. In addition preparing the year-end accounts and budgeting will take around a day a year.
