St Wilfrid’s Hospice is an independent West Sussex charity that has been providing support for adults with life-limiting illness and end-of-life care for over 35 years.

The Hospice offers a wide range of services, providing physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual support, which ensures respect and encourages individuality, dignity and self-esteem.

We work in close partnership with all health and social care professionals involved in a person’s care, including GPs and community nurses.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice supports a population of around 200,000 people across parts of West Sussex and Hampshire. We have a 14-bed Ward, but the majority of care takes place in the community in people’s homes. We support local people from Emsworth to Arundel, including Chichester and Bognor, and the area stretching from the coast north to Midhurst. We provide a wide breadth of services, including a Living Well Centre, where patients and loved ones can participate in a range of activities to help them manage their illness and symptoms.

St Wilfrid’s also has a Family Services Team, who provide sessions for patients and their family throughout their illness, talking through any fears or worries. Bereavement services are also offered to loved ones after a patient has died, to continue to support them through their journey of grief. We receive a limited amount of NHS funding, so most of the cost of providing our services each year is met through donations, our shops and voluntary funding. These vital services are free of charge, thanks to the generous support of fundraisers and donors.

Our Hospice building is on Walton Lane, Bosham, near Chichester. We moved into our new building in 2019 and have fantastic, contemporary facilities, including our Living Well Centre and central courtyard area, which is home to a resin copy of the John Keats sculpture that can be found in Eastgate Square, Chichester. The sculpture, which is a lovely place to sit and reflect, was kindly donated to us by the sculptor Vincent Gray. We also have a Café at the Hospice, lovely open and bright spaces, and beautiful gardens with over 100 varieties of plants tended by our volunteer gardening team.
