The 2021 Festival of Chichester is now in full flow with a scintillating mix of outdoor, live and virtual events, which offer audiences the chance to immerse themselves in fun, culture and entertainment. We’ve had some brilliant events including sell-out successes! The third week brings even more delights which can be browsed on the festival website.
There’s a wonderful choice of musical highlights, both classical and popular. Top class ensembles who would grace any festival anywhere are right here at Chichester. Look out for the fabulous Stradivarius Piano Trio at Christchurch, the fantastic Ensemble Reza with Russian Dreams at the Assembly Room, rising Russian star pianist Elena Toponogova in a free lunchtime recital at the Cathedral, wonderful festival regulars Pavlos Carvalho and Louisa Lam at St Paul’s with The Great Romantics. Plus a concert performance of a Handel opera at the University.
Other musical delights are the Spectre Orchestra with Bond is Back and Afternoon Tea with the Sleepy Lagoon Orchestra both at the university. Or you could enjoy the catchy sounds of Summer Acoustic Nights. Looking ahead to Sunday 4th July, you can catch the super Cuban band, The Latin Bridge, in an outdoor, picnic show at Halnaker Park Cottage grounds.
The theatre highlight is Greg Mosse’s Lydia and George, a spin-off from Pride and Prejudice. Spoken word with a musical twist features with a stimulating show on the Spirit of Woodstock, while Philip Gross presents his poetry, there’s a focus on Tree Wardens, and Jenny Bathurst launches her new book.
Art lovers are spoilt for choice with a wide selection of shows across the city and beyond. Take your pick from Chichester Art Society’s exhibition at the Oxmarket, be Inspired by Light at the Little Gallery, West Wittering, catch Artel’s Alchemy exhibition, be moved by Darkness into Light, or spot the cartoons of celebrities in Legends of Sport, Music and the Movies.
Then, of course, there’s the city itself, which can be explored on walks with expert guides – choose from Guided Tours of the City Walls, the Highlights of Chichester’s History or a Heritage Walk and Talk looking at the past of Graylingwell.
