Event W05: The Place That Made You: Prose and Poetry Creative Writing Workshop

Local authors and experienced creative writing tutors Stephanie Norgate and Karen Stevens will discuss how their imaginations have been shaped by rural or urban landscapes. They will then guide you through a series of connected writing exercises, inviting you to explore your emotional landscapes, cityscapes or seascapes.
In this two-hour creative writing workshop, Karen and Stephanie will draw on their own experiences of creating stories, characters and poems from a sense of place. Participants will need to bring some paper and a pen or laptop and be prepared to delve into the sights, sounds, objects and dramas associated with the special places, landscapes, cityscapes or seascapes of their personal histories. Karen’s collection of short stories, Brilliant Blue, is set in the urban landscape of the Duncock Estate, while Stephanie’s novel Hartisborne and some poems in her collection, The Conversation, draw on her native village of Selborne.
The creative exercises will invite you to discover a layering of emotion, place and character in your writing whether you write prose or poetry and whether your work is gritty or lyrical. Come along with an open mind, ready to experiment and connect with other writers in a warm, encouraging workshop.
Suitable for all levels. Soft drinks included in price.
